For Years, I Thought Maybe I Just Needed More Discipline

I tried the diets. I tried the workouts. I tried starting over on Monday more times than I can count.

From the outside, it probably looked like I was doing everything "right," but underneath it all, my body was struggling with PCOS, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, hormone imbalance, blood sugar instability, and exhaustion that I couldn't explain.

No matter how hard I worked, I constantly felt like my body was fighting against me. The weight wouldn't budge. The inflammation felt constant. The cravings were overwhelming. My energy disappeared. And honestly, I started blaming myself.

I thought maybe I lacked motivation. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. Maybe I just needed more willpower.

But eventually I realized this wasn't a discipline problem. My body was overwhelmed.

Diagnosed at 15

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was just 15 years old. At the time, I was struggling with missing periods, low blood sugar episodes, passing out, weight gain, acne, excessive sweating, depression, and low self-esteem.

I remember feeling like something was wrong with my body, but no one really explained what PCOS actually was or how deeply it could affect my health long term. When I saw my OB-GYN, I was put on birth control and told to lose weight. That was it. No real education. No guidance. No explanation about insulin resistance, inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, or hormones. Just "lose weight."

For decades, I suffered without truly understanding what was happening inside my body. Every doctor's appointment felt the same: another prescription, another symptom, another temporary fix. It felt like providers were constantly putting band-aids over my symptoms instead of addressing the root cause.

Meanwhile, my health continued getting worse. Over the years, I struggled with infertility, chronic inflammation, continued weight gain, and eventually Type 2 diabetes — it's a metabolic condition. That realization changed everything.

For the first time, I started understanding how connected everything really was: insulin resistance, inflammation, blood sugar dysregulation, hormones, cortisol, metabolism, weight gain, chronic disease. Suddenly, my symptoms finally made sense.

I started changing my habits completely. I cleaned up my diet. I removed inflammatory foods and oils. I started reading ingredient labels. I began transitioning to a more low-tox lifestyle. I focused on whole foods and metabolic health. I went keto. I exercised more consistently. I truly felt like I was doing everything "right." But despite all of my efforts, the scale barely moved and my health still continued declining.

That was one of the most frustrating parts of my journey — feeling like I was fighting so hard for my health while my body still seemed to be working against me.

After eventually being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, my primary care doctor referred me to an endocrinologist. And honestly, that appointment became one of the biggest turning points in my life. For the first time, I felt like someone actually understood what was happening inside my body. She explained that PCOS wasn't simply about ovarian cysts or weight gain — it was deeply connected to insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction.

Then she brought up GLP-1 medications. At first, I was honestly annoyed.

PCOS Is Not Simply a "Weight Issue"

One thing I wish more women understood is that PCOS is deeply connected to insulin resistance, inflammation, hormones, metabolism, stress, and nervous system health.

For many women, the body is carrying a much heavier metabolic burden than people realize. Sometimes it's not laziness. Sometimes it's not lack of discipline. Sometimes the body is overwhelmed, inflamed, hormonally dysregulated, and exhausted.

That realization completely changed how I approached wellness.

GLP-1s, Peptides & Tools

When I first started learning about GLP-1 medications and metabolic health support, I became interested in the conversation around insulin resistance, inflammation, appetite regulation, blood sugar stability, energy, and metabolic healing.

For me personally, this journey became about so much more than weight loss. I was looking for better energy, reduced inflammation, stable blood sugar, less food noise, hormone support, healing my metabolism, and feeling functional again.

Over time, I noticed improved energy, fewer cravings, better blood sugar stability, reduced inflammation, less food obsession, better recovery, improved confidence, and feeling more like myself again.

What Healing Looked Like

Less about extremes, more about consistency: protein, muscle building, walking, sleep, hydration, nervous system regulation, blood sugar balance, and realistic habits. I stopped chasing punishment and started prioritizing support.

What Changed Physically

Energy, inflammation, blood sugar, cravings, sleep, hormones, gut health, weight, and mental clarity all started shifting — slowly, then steadily.

What Changed Emotionally

Hope, confidence, motivation, reduced shame, and peace with food and body. The biggest shift wasn't just physical — I finally stopped believing I simply needed more willpower.

What I Wish More Women Knew

"You are not lazy. You are not broken. And your body is not working against you for no reason. Healing is not about punishment. It's about support."
